Lucky Broken Girl
Lucky Broken Girl is a book about a girl named Ruthie, who ends up in a car accident. The story takes place in New York in the 60’s and also tells Ruthie’s story of the difficulties immigrating from Cuba to New York.
One day, Ruthie and her family end up in an awful car accident. Her leg is so badly broken that she has to spend several months in a body cast. Life becomes incredibly hard for her and also very boring because she just spends all day in bed. She feels bad for her mother because she has to constantly stay home and take care of her.
After a while, though, Ruthie slowly starts appreciating life again and is thankful for the family and friends who come visit and help her through this hard time. She learns how to walk again and sees life from a different perspective!
At first I thought this book was only sad, but after reading it, I feel that I learned a lot from Ruthie. It was a beautiful book, and I would recommend it to kids nine and up!
