Love Like Sky is a wonderful story about family, love, relationships and the challenges of blended families. G-baby is a kind, thoughtful and caring eleven years old; she has a lot going on in her life. She has to grow up dealing with new step-parents. Not to mention she is desperate for new teen stepsister, Tangie, to like her. She’s also at odds with her best friend. To further complicate things, her younger sister is seriously ill; that turns her world inside out. All of this forces G-baby to realize just how much family means and what truly matters in life.

There aren’t any illustrations, but the cover is fantastic! The author’s language is descriptive and brings the story to life. Sometimes it moves a little too slow, but it’s still great. Leslie C. Youngblood talks about serious issues facing African-Americans in a way that is good for younger readers to understand and experience. The story is very realistic and relevant. The characters are well developed, complex and unforgettable. The reader gets to know them and starts care about them. Everyone between 9-14 should read this book (it’s good for older people too.) This is a beautiful story; the reader won’t be able to put it down!
