Love & Gelato was one that had a cute premise, looked cute and fluffy, but was ultimately beyond boring. Which in turn made it a somewhat disappointing read. I feel like the story started off well. Lina is coming to terms with her mother’s death and finding out about her father, who lives halfway across the world Italy. When Lina lands in Italy with her dad, Howard, she just knows that she wants to be back in America with her best friend. Then she meets Ren, a beautiful boy who introduces her to his world. There’s also Thomas. To answer your question, the story is hardly a love triangle. We all know whom she truly wants. The mystery aspect to the story is mediocre at best. Lina inherits her mother’s journal from when she lived in Italy. In the journal, there’s a mystery man that her mother had a secret love affair with. Lina just knows it’s Howard…Or is it? Well, the big reveal was a let down. One thing I did love about the story was its descriptions of Italy. I felt as if I were truly there. That’s exactly what I want in a book, to be able to travel from the comfort of my own bed. I believe this will thrill fans of Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins.
