Listen to the Moon
Have you ever befriended a person and didn’t know who they were and where they came from? Alfie and his family felt this way when they found a young girl named Lucy on a deserted island, living all by herself. At first she doesn’t speak but through music and a horse, she begins to be healed and some of Alfie’s family and village also find healing.
Listen to the Moon by Michael Morpurgo tells the story of a young girl who was traveling across the Atlantic Ocean on the Lusitania, which was on her final voyage. Somehow she survives the sinking and finds herself on the island until she is befriended by Alfie and his family. There are suspicions that she is a German spy or a mermaid. The story is told by different people with varying points of view. Along the way, you are drawn to cheer for Lucy to remember, to be healed, to move on; and to cheer for Alfie’s and the other’s efforts to help her.
This book would be good for older kids who love mysteries and historical fiction.
