Lies You Never Told Me

This is a high stakes drama with incredible twists and turns. Elyse and Gabe don’t know each other, but their lives are about to intertwine in a way they never imagined. Gabe is trying to get past a breakup with his popular, manipulative girlfriend Sasha. She will do anything to get him back, even if it means hurting the ones he loves. Far away, Elyse falls for someone she shouldn’t and her life changes dramatically. The characters are relatable and believable, although sometimes the lack depth and complexity despite the serious issues they are experiencing. The book is well written and the alternating stories as told by Gabe and Elyse weave a good story. The themes are definitely mature–drug addiction, bullying, harassment, and teens having sex with teachers. This makes it difficult to recommend for anyone under 16, and even then it may glorify relationships that are simply wrong, which makes it difficult for me to support it having a broader audience. This is definitely an engaging read for people who like thrilling, young adult dramas. This is a captivating story full of twists and turns that will shock and entice you from the very first word.
