Marissa Mo has never had an ideal childhood. Her life has been marred by her seven years of captivity in a basement with her mother and sisters, then by growing up with constant negative attention from the media. Now she’s working as a freelance photographer and using her middle name as a cover. Marissa’s life has mostly smoothed out––until she’s hired to cover a series of murders in the Portland area. Anything to do with murder is bad enough, but Marissa knows somehow that the killer meant for her to be here. The toys left behind are identical to the ones Marissa and her sisters had in the basement, and the notes are even worse. Marissa realizes she must return to the darkness of her past in order to bring light to this mystery, but will she make it out alive?

This book was a twisty, dark, and interesting mystery! It was filled with thrills and chills, as well as realistic characters. I liked the suspenseful build up, and the book had an ending that did not disappoint! It also had a subtle creepiness that I enjoyed. I will read more books by this author in the future!
