Lea Dives In (American Girl Today)
In this book, a girl named Lea goes to Brazil with her family to see her brother Zac and a friend named Camila. The main characters in this book are Lea, Camila, and Ama. Lea really likes to travel and to take pictures. She’s looking forward to seeing her older brother Zac, who is staying in Brazil, and enjoying the South American beach, but she doesn’t know about all the other adventures that await her there. One thing that I particularly liked about this book was when Lea met Camila. Camila is about the same age as Lea and she enjoys playing at her house.
One thing about this book that I didn’t like was that there was a mean babysitter in Brazil, but I realize that this also adds to the plot of the story. The only real illustration in this book was on the cover, and it looked like a photo of a young girl enjoying a day at the beach. There weren’t any illustrations in the book itself. One quote from this book that I really liked was “The fjords are so beautiful, but the water is arctic!” I think this book is appropriate for girls ages 8 – 12, especially girls who like the beach. Except for me, because I don’t like the beach, but I liked this book.
