This book follows the Rains brothers as they struggle to survive a zombie apocalypse and save their small town from ultimate doom. Patrick and Chance Rains and a small band of others fight to survive and overcome the takeover of their town by “harvesters” who gather those under 18 and zombies who have overtaken the adults. The story begins with Chance Rains being separated from the others as he realizes that he and his brother are somehow special and being hunted by everyone. The story is told mainly from his perspective, and the reader is quickly drawn to him and his story. The other characters are also very easy to like and care about, so I found myself fearing for them and worrying about what would happen to them. The story is full of action, suspense, horror, and heart-wrenching, emotional moments. It is a well-written story that is somewhat believable even though it is about zombies, aliens, and so much more. The story is entertaining and terrifying at the same time, making it hard to put the book down once you start reading it. This is a must-read for dystopian story lovers and science fiction fans over the age of 13.
