Larry Gets Lost Under the Sea
Larry the dog and his boy, Pete, go to the beach. While Pete is making a sand castle, Larry goes off to explore the tide pools and gets washed into the sea by a wave. Larry explores the kelp forest until he gets picked up by a diver who takes Larry into his “bathyscaphe.” Larry gets to explore the different levels of the ocean—sunlight zone, twilight zone, and midnight zone—before he returns back to Pete on shore. What an adventure when Larry Gets Lost Under the Sea.
I loved my mom reading this book to me. The story is written in rhyme, but there are also side notes which teach facts about the ocean. This book teaches lots of new words, like “oceanographer,” “bathyscaphe,” and “hydrothermal vents.” The illustrations are colorful and I like how they show the sea creatures who live in the different zones of the ocean. This book reminded me of a trip I took this summer to the Pacific Coast of Vancouver Island, Canada. While there, we went to the tide pools in Ucluelet, BC, and we saw little sea creatures and kelp washed up on the beaches.
