Kirby’s Lessons for Falling (in Love): A Graphic Novel
Kirby Tan is the top rock climber at her school, but due to an unfortunate fall, she is being held back for the rest of the season. In need of some extra credit, Kirby stumbles upon the astrology position for the newspaper club at her school. At first, she was reluctant to join. Then she meets Bex Santos, who joins Kirby in the astrology matchmaking column. As the two start to spend more time together, Kirby starts to fall in love. In the end, she needs to choose between the acceptance of her family, or the romance with Bex she wanted to have.
This graphic novel was definitely up my alley! The story had plenty of relatable topics for many communities. The characters were spot-on. All their personalities were so diverse and fun! They would make great friends in real life. Bex is my favorite character because I like her energetic personality and extreme passion for astrology. I thought it was really cool how the story was set in San Francisco, since it was mentioned that Kirby and her friends go to Lowell High School. Recommended to readers who enjoy astrology, queer romance, or rock climbing.
