Just Grace Gets Crafty (The Just Grace Series)
Just Grace Gets Crafty is written by Charise Meracle Harper and is a continuum of the Just Grace series. The series features a girl named Grace, but because there are four Graces in her grade she is stuck with the name Just Grace. This is the story of her adventures with her best friend, Mimi, as she meets a crossing guard, has a new substitute teacher, and tries to raise money for a carnival.
She first get a new substitute teacher and is happily surprised by her creative teaching methods. A continuous theme is Grace bringing up her “superpower” of compassion. So when she and Mimi meet the new crossing guard, Marie, and quickly learns she has no friends and family around, she wants to help.
She tries to find out more about the crossing guard and find her friend, but as much as she wants to help, she doesn’t succeed. Every year there’s a carnival and Grace has always wanted the same stuffed animal, but she hasn’t had enough money to buy it, and Mimi tells her she also want it. So they decide to raise money by making things to sell at the crafts fair so they can both get one.
Grace and Mimi use their creativity to try to raise money and get Marie a friend in his funny, lighthearted book. While the book is very entertaining, it lacks a solid story and interesting ideas.
A boy or girl could enjoy this book, but with it being the perspective of a relatively girly girl, girls would probably like it more. I give this book three stars.
It’s a very fun read, with entertaining cartoons, but can get uninteresting at times.
