Since she was a child, Julia has been able to vanish. It isn’t invisibility exactly, she doesn’t disappear, Julia is just beyond most people’s senses. However, having this ability is dangerous in a world that condemns magic and witches to drown in the river Syne. On the plus side, this helps her with her work; Julia is in the business of being a crook – she learned long ago that crime pays. The assignment she is currently on is paying very well. All she has to do is infiltrate the house of rich Mrs. Och who helps the truly desperate – among them being witches who may soon be drowned. After a while, Julia unearths many secrets in the house and soon starts to wonder about the specifics of this unusual job and whether or not the traitor in the house is the odd people inside it or her. She soon discovers you can’t vanish from all your problems and comes out to right her wrongs. This book was intriguing and allowed me to vanish from reality for the few precious hours I got to spend reading it; I eagerly await the rest of the series!
