Into the Midnight Void (Beyond the Ruby Veil, 2)
Emanuela was once a prisoner fighting for her life, doomed to a fate worse than death for something she couldn’t control. Now that she rules every city under the veils, she’s determined to change things for the better, even if she has to share with her beautiful archenemy, Verene. The strange bruise-like omens are no longer met with death, and the people are now dependent on Emanuela for the water she creates from blood via her blood magic.
But odd deaths are happening throughout Occia, and it may be connected to the blood magic Emanuela and Verene both share. Is there someone beyond the veils with a higher power than even Emanuela? And will they be able to save Occia?
This book was chaotic, bloody, and a very entertaining read. Emanuela was dramatic and likable, and the side romance between her and Verene was cute. Their relationship and dialogue were fun to read. The worldbuilding and magic were very unique, with new reveals along the way. The inclusion of blood magic was my favorite part, and so were the omens. Since this is the last book in the duology, I’m sad to see it come to a close!
