I, Cosmo
This is a realistic story about one dog that is ‘doggedly’ devoted to his human. It has an unhappy family, with a mom and dad that fight. It shows how one dog can change a life and make a loving home. The book is superbly well written, with good point-of-view writing. It feels like you are alongside Cosmo, deep in his mind. The characters are well developed. You get to know Max and Cosmo and even feel that the sheepdog he detests is a demon. In the beginning, I felt uncomfortable reading it; it seemed sad and hard to follow. As I got deeper into the plot, it got more and more readable. I feel a bit young for this book at age 10. I would recommend it for tweens and teens. It is a complex book you cannot expect to read in one sitting. As fiction goes, it is tame but realistic. If I had to classify it I would say it is realistic fiction. This is a great book to read for fun.
