Hugo and Friends: Nice to be Nice But Nicer to be Nicer

This book shows Hugo the Hippo and his group of friends having fun in all sorts of ways. The stories are all in rhymes and show Hugo’s friends doing lots of activities. They are late for school as they can’t find their stuff or put on socks and shoes. They swim in a warm lake with crocodiles and skate on an icy lake with penguins. They dream of a world made of candy. They look at a rainbow colored bird, and they go to the Great Wall of China. They blow dandelions on a summer afternoon, and they run a marathon, getting sore feet. I did not really like this book. The title talked about being nice and nicer to friends but there was not really a story about it. [Note from mom: I suspect the hidden messages re: one big planet and harmony in nature were a bit too hard to detect for a young child.]
