Harley Quinn: Reckoning (DC Icons Series)
Harley Quinn by Rachael Allen is an intriguing take on a familiar character. While I have read and watched various versions of Harley Quinn in the past, Allen’s interpretation brings new life to this villain who is both loved and feared. By placing Harley Quinn in a university setting, the author is able to explore issues related to feminism since the character experiences unfair treatment as a female. I appreciate how the book sparks questions about seeking justice and responding to abuse. What motivates Harley Quinn and what is justified in her chaotic choices – or not? I have been disappointed in the past by other works that re-imagined famous characters, but that is most definitely not the case for Allen’s creative vision of Harley Quinn. In fact, this author made me enjoy the familiar super villain more than ever before! I recommend this book with enthusiasm to anyone who already appreciates Harley Quinn as well as readers who are curious to dive into this wild and fascinating world.
