Grim (Harlequin Teen)
Seventeen stories, seventeen authors, and fairy tales written as if they were meant to be told in all their dark and ghastly glory. Grim is a collection of short stories with many of the authors I have never heard of. Author Ellen Hopkins is what drew me to this book and made we want to read it and I am glad I did.
The stories are quick, but packed with vivid worlds, macabre storylines, and characters you will love and hate. They all do very well filling the stories with lots of description. This helped make the characters more relatable and in many of the stories, you could feel as if you were in the story alongside the characters such as Beauty and her defiance towards Beast or Merula who is at the mercy of the maddened King, her father, to marry her. This book will have you questioning the mental stability of these characters, the darkness that consumed them, and what viable lesson could truly be learned. If you are looking for a change of pace and don’t mind short stories, definitely pick up a copy of this book!
