Greek Myths and Mazes
Greek Myths and Mazes by Jan Bajtlik is an entertaining, but a challenging book. More a maze book than a myth book, every two-page spread is a colorful, fun maze. Some pictures make up a map of a Greek city, others make mazes from islands or battlefields. These mazes are not meant to be drawn in but followed by your finger. Some mazes have facts and characters drawn in, others have only a title and detailed art for you to interpret what the designer meant. Each maze has a title and a reference to a page at the back of the book so that you can know more background on the maze you are solving. There are about fifty oversized pages of mazes in this book and then about 18 pages of notes explaining the stories of the Greek gods and their family tree. My favorite maze is called A Labyrinthine Dance. It swirls on the page like a giant whirlpool with hundreds of people connected by hands. The cool thing is that it connects with my favorite Greek myth which is The Minotaur. I recommend this book for maze lovers ages seven and up and those who like history – especially ancient history.
