Global Conflict
Global Conflict is a book that helps explain issues and important words that we hear on the news. This book helps children understand words like conflict, war, refugee, and terrorism. We learn different reasons why conflict happens. I learned that conflict can happen when one group or country tries to take land from another, or that sometimes people think everyone should live and believe exactly like they do, which also makes conflict. The United Nations is a group of countries that tries to help two sides solve their problems in a fair way. Understanding each other helps us learn that people are different and may live in different ways but that it is ok for them to be different. If everyone could do this, there wouldn’t be as much conflict in the world. I like that the book talks about different ways to help. You can write a letter to the government, you can raise money or collect donations for refugees. In my community, I have volunteered to help refugees by putting together toiletry bags for girls living in refugee camps. We also went shopping for supplies for a refugee family who was moving to America. We made sure that they had furniture and supplies in their new apartment for when they first arrived. We hoped it would help them feel more at home. I think that all families should read this book. It is important for kids to read Global Conflict because it teaches us what is happening in the world right now and how we can help others.
