In this book, there is a man who sells gingerbread and is really nice. He lives in Pennsylvania but he used to be a soldier in Germany. Then the Revolutionary War started and he wanted to be a soldier for General Washington. Then there was this part that was so funny: His wife said he was too old and fat to fight, but General Washington didn’t say he was too old and fat, because General Washington was too polite! General Washington was worried about how to feed his army, so then the baker fed everyone and baked lots and lots of gingerbread. He even got some people from the other side to join General Washington’s army. At the end there was another part that was funny: It said, “At the end of the war, did he bake them gingerbread? No one will ever know, because they didn’t leave a crumb!” This is a true story and this person really existed and he was really nice. I like reading about him. The pictures are all really funny because they all look like everything is made out of gingerbread!
