The Ghost Prison is a story about an orphan named Billy Calder. He gets a job as a guard at the local prison, and soon finds out it is haunted. In the basement, which they call the “Witch’s Den,” lives a crazed demon, which they need to feed at midnight each night. When the regular caretaker of the demon is missing one night, Billy has to take over. He feeds the demon at midnight and the door shuts and locks behind him. Soon he finds himself stuck inside the demon’s den. Will Billy become dinner for the demon and find himself the prison’s newest ghost? Or will he be able to escape? I give The Ghost Prison three out of five stars. I liked the illustrations in the book; they really helped to bring the story to life. Billy was a likeable character and I was really surprised by ending. It is short read that is fast and pretty easy, but I felt that the storyline could have been developed a little bit better. I would recommend this to kids who like horror stories.
