G.I. Dogs: Judy, Prisoner of War
Judy is an English Pointer, sailing with the Royal Navy. Her life is perfect…until World War II slams into her world, sinks her ship, and captures her and her crew as prisoners of war! With each month that goes by, the situation gets worse. Her crew doesn’t know if they will ever make it out. They are losing hope. But Judy has courage. She just needs to keep the men’s spirits up long enough for the Allies to find them. However, time is running out for everyone. Judy can hold out a little longer. Will it be long enough?
Based on a true story, this book is quite an exciting read. First of all, it is very interesting because it is set from the dog’s point of view, which is unusual and entertaining. It is an action-packed book about World War II, but it is also about an amazing, funny, sweet dog who loves people. This is a short chapter book, but I don’t think it is for younger kids. The war and the bombs may be frightening, and the prison camps are definitely scary. For older children, I would say that it would depend on what you are comfortable with. In this book, Judy sails on a crazy, heroic adventure. And on the way she makes lots of friends, fends off a pirate, and even gets married. You’ll love Judy!
