This book is about a girl named Tamaya who likes to walk from school with her friend Marshall. One day, Marshall wanted to take a shortcut. Tamaya thought it was a bad idea and that they would get lost, but she didn’t want to walk home alone. Marshall went to a high place where he could see everything, and told Tamaya to stay down below. When he came down, he said that he knew where they were. An hour later, they both ran into a boy name Chad. Marshall and Chad fought. Then Tamaya decided to join in and throw fuzzy mud at his face. But what they didn’t know is that the mud could give them an infection. After the fight, Tamaya and Marshall ran, leaving Chad behind. It was starting to get dark, and, after awhile, Tamaya felt tingling on her hand. She didn’t worry about it and, eventually, they both made it home.

Tamaya told her mom that she had a rash. She put on some of her special cream on her hand, then went to bed. When she woke up, she found this powder all over her sheets. Tamaya took them off and washed them. When she went to school, she was writing something and saw blood on her hand. The teacher sent her to the nurse. At the nurse’s office, she got her hand bandaged.

A few weeks later, people said that Chad was missing, and Tamaya decided to look for him in the woods. She was yelling his name and hoping she would find him. Then she heard him say something very weakly. Tamaya rushed over to give him a piece of her sandwich, but he whacked it out of her hand. She tried it again. But this time, he took it and ate it and her fruit salad. Chad licked the container to make sure he got every last drop of it. Then a few men found Tamaya, Chad, and Marshall. Tamaya tried to warn them about the rash, but they wouldn’t listen. When they took them to the hospital, they got split up into different rooms and Tamaya was worried that Chad would die.

A few days later, the news said that the mud couldn’t survive in the weather. Tamaya heard cheering in the other rooms. To find out what happens to Tamaya and the other characters in Fuzzy Mud, read this book.
