Fritz Fombie Have No Fear (Volume 1)
Fritz Zombie Have No Fear, is the story of a young girl named Fannie. She lives her life afraid of pretty much everything. She has a long list of all the things she’s afraid of, the worst ones marked with a pirate flag. On this list is Stink Warts the Horrible, an imaginary monster under her bed. One day, on a sleepover with her best friend Abby, Fannie accidentally calls upon a zombie, named Fritz. This zombie arrives to help her work through her fears, along with the help of Stink Warts the Horrible, the monster that turned out to not be imaginary and also turned out to be the size of a Chihuahua. Fritz can only exist while a mud puddle does; it’s the way the rules work. When the streets dry up, and there’s no more rain to make a puddle, he will disappear. A mean kid named Buz learns this and tries his very best to get rid of Fritz forever. He also teams up with Fannie’s older brother, Benny. But Benny isn’t so sure he wants to be of assistance. This book is a creative idea about a girl trying to overcome her fears with the help of an unexpected friend.
The characters are likable, and it has a very sweet concept. I would say it’s a feel-good kind of book. But while the idea was inventive, I didn’t find the book exciting. I find it’s quite predictable, but fun to read. It’s a short book, so it would be something quick to read to keep you occupied for a little while. I’d imagine a girl would like this book more, but I think both genders would enjoy it. I’d suggest this book for ages 8-11.
