Frankenkitty

Description

I picked up Frankenkitty mostly because I love cats and will read any books when they are the main characters or are featured at all. The story of Frankenkitty can be read year-round, although it seems like just a Halloween read based on the title and cover. The story follows Frankenkitty, starting at its creation by “dad,” then how it escapes and becomes lost, and it seems like it’ll never be found, and who knows if it can survive on its own! One brave girl discovers Frankenkitty and does what any cat-lover would do – rescues it and takes it home so it can be safe and sound again.

I enjoyed Frankenkitty, but the story was slightly simple for me; it might read as more exciting for younger readers. However, I still loved it because it had a cat. I appreciated the full-page, colored illustrations that bring the story to life, especially when they feature “normal” things found in a mad scientist’s lab – eek! The story, by the illustrations, is scary but not scary, so for sure readers who enjoy spooky stories will enjoy this one, but those who don’t so much will not get too scared.
