Foulsham: Book Two (The Iremonger Trilogy)
Clod Iremonger has been turned into a half-sovereign by his grandfather, because his family thinks he’s very troublesome. His friend, Lucy Pennant, has been turned into a clay button. They get lost around Filching, now called Foulsham by the inhabitants, but strange things are starting to happen to people as well as objects. A disease has come into the town and is turning people into objects, and objects are moving on their own. Even though Clod is a coin, he knows what is going on. The only thing he can do is talk to other objects, but will that help him save the town? Will he and Lucy ever become human again?
This was a new and unique type of fantasy. Clod and Lucy had a good friendship that was strong enough that Lucy felt like she could let Clod know nearly everything about her. They worked well as a team and had good solutions to their problems. The ending was satisfying yet pendulant – it left you hanging, which makes sense as the middle book of a trilogy. I can hardly wait to read the ending and see how it all turns out!
