Firebird
A ballerina named Misty Copeland wrote this book. In the story, she shows a young girl how to dance like the Firebird. In real life, Misty Copeland started dancing ballet when she was thirteen years old. Now she is a soloist at the American Ballet Theatre! This book has very bright and colorful paintings. I especially like the picture when the dancer is standing on the stage behind the curtain. It reminds me of the beginning of the Christmas pageant that I performed. At the end of the book there is a letter to a reader from the author, Misty Copeland. I like the “I needed to find ME” quote. Maybe it’s a puzzle. Something special about this book is that the sentences don’t start with capital letters and don’t end with periods. It reminds me of thoughts: “you will soar become a swan, a beauty, a firebird for sure” is one part I like. I think that this will be a great book for kids to read who enjoy ballet and dance. I take ballet lessons and I like this book.
