Fairy in Waiting is the sequel to Fairy Mom and Me. In the book, the main character, Ella’s, mom is a fairy and even has her own computawand (which is a wand, but when you aren’t using it, it looks like a normal phone). Unfortunately, Ella’s mom isn’t very good at magic and sometimes she messes up. Ella’s grandma and aunt are also fairies, but they are good at magic. To cast a spell on a computawand, you type in a code, for example 4-5-2, and then say the spell that goes with it, for example “normeridoo,” to make everything go back to normal. But sometimes Ella’s mom has trouble remembering the codes, and because Ella is a fairy-in-waiting, she can’t do magic herself. She can help her mom remember the codes, and so she does. In every chapter, Ella’s mom does a spell but messes it up, and Ella must save the day. Finally, Ella is on vacation with her mom and dad. She goes to the pool with her mom, and she meets a girl her own age who says she has her own computawand and she shows Ella later. It is very hot, and everyone else is in the pool when Ella sees the girl’s computawand in a bag. Elle, herself, is the one to mess up next! I like this book because it’s funny and moms don’t have to be right all the time. I also like how the illustrator draws people – even though they are cartoons, they look like people, not noodles!
