Nalia is the last of her kind, a jinni who can use magic from all four elements. However, ever since the jinni revolution three years ago, she has been a slave to Malek, a handsome but cruel man with worldwide political influence. Nalia would give anything to get away, because her little brother, her only remaining family, is in a slave camp. At a jinni bar, she meets Raif, the dashing leader of the jinni resistance. Raif offers Nalia a way to save her brother, but in order to gain her freedom, she must convince Malek that she truly loves him. As her feelings for Raif intensify, she wonders how long she can carry on this masquerade.

I didn’t really like this book. There was a lot of angst and I felt like Nalia was too helpless; I understand how she felt trapped but she didn’t seem to take advantage of the opportunities available. I prefer strong heroines; I felt like Nalia is too hesitant to make any serious decisions. I did enjoy the idea that jinn could exist and fight for their own freedoms.
