“You don’t have to do it all at once, you just have to get through one breath at a time.”

Matt and Cole have been best friends for as long as they can remember, through thick and thin. It’s been eleven years since the school shooting that killed seventeen kids and the principal. As the boys graduate from school and begin summer, fragments from that awful moment can no longer be forgotten. Cole was the poster child; the face plastered in newspapers and magazines about a shooting he can’t remember. Matt was absent that day, homesick. But the guilt of not being there has never left him. Now as the summer starts they have to deal with changing relationships, family challenges and the guilt of surviving in order to face the future and finally live.

Matt and Cole, among many of the other characters, are well rounded in their relationships with each other. Their friendship is realistic and believable. It took a couple of chapters to really get into Every Moment After but once you start getting to know the characters it’s hard to put down. I really enjoyed this book, but I’m hesitant to recommend to friends because of heavy cussing throughout the book and would not recommend this book for someone under fifteen.
