Eva Evergreen, Semi-Magical Witch is an adventurous page-turner by Julie Abe. This book tells the story of novice witch Eva Evergreen, who fights for the right to a quest, and once assigned one, she makes her way to a coastal city that is expecting a grandmaster. Eva Evergreen is not a grandmaster; she’s not even an elite. She is a witch who struggles if she casts too many spells in a day. But she can’t mess this up as the stakes are high. The culling is coming and if she doesn’t prepare the town for the great storm, she will lose all of her magic. Can she do it?

A thing I liked about the book is how we see the main character slowly but surely move out of her mother’s shadow and start thinking for herself. A big part of this came from the character moving away from her mother and everyone she knew, so she could be herself. I would recommend this book to anyone who has watched Little Witch Academia. I would also recommend it if you like any of the following: fantasy, magic, mythical animals, and dynamic characters. If you like these, you should read Eva Evergreen, Semi-Magical Witch.
