Emerge

Lia Nautilus is a mermaid who lives on land. She and others of her kind have been living on land ever since the infamous Little Mermaid cursed her whole kind with a curse. The curse stripped all of Mer-kind of their immortality and the ocean erupted into chaos as Mers fought over the throne in the hopes of bringing peace once again to all the waters of the world. Right now the only thing Lia has to worry about is surviving high school—P.E. in particular—and making sure she doesn’t get too attached to a human boy named Clay Ericson—which is easier said than done. But when Clay’s life is in danger from a certain new mermaid will Lia have the guts to do what needs to be done or will she go too far, or even, run away like a guppy?

Emerge was a very sweet, feel-good book that was an adorable refresher on life under the sea. One of my favorite parts of reading the book was how Tobie Easton portrayed what she thought mermaids would be like; I especially enjoyed how the mermaids cried pearls. I’m really excited this is only the first book because I look forward to more!
