Elle & Buddy
Elle is a little girl who was paralyzed and uses a wheelchair. Buddy is a dog and her best friend. On their way home from the fair, Elle and Buddy spot some boys racing in their racing wheelchairs. Elle is very excited to see them racing. When she gets home, she dreams of becoming the fastest girl in her own racing wheelchair. One day, Elle wakes up and she has her very own racing wheelchair. Elle practices and practices with Buddy running along beside her the whole time. Eventually, Elle gets so fast that Buddy can’t even keep up. Having a racing wheelchair helps make Elle feel brave.
I liked Elle and Buddy because it is about a real girl who became paralyzed in a car accident. Arielle now races for the University of Illinois on their wheelchair racing team. The illustrations are really nice and seem almost real. I loved that Buddy is her best friend and I have a dog, Tilley, who does everything with me. This book shows that it is important to have big dreams.
