Edgar’s Second Word

Hazel is so excited to have a new baby brother. She could hardly wait for him to be able to play with her, and especially, to talk. But when he said his first word, it was ‘NO’. And then that was the only thing he said. About everything. Hazel got really annoyed. She tried to teach him to say yes. She said ‘Y-eee-ssss’ very slowly. She wanted to be mad at him but she didn’t. But he kept saying no. Hazel imagined that Edgar’s favorite word in the future would still be ‘no’ when he was in kindergarten, or elementary school, or when he was an adult! But Hazel was still really nice to him. One day, she was reading him a book and Edgar said his second word: “Again!” and then he said his third word: “Hazel.”

This is a good book for an older sister with a little baby. I was glad that Hazel was always really nice to Edgar, even though she was frustrated. The pictures are fun and they help tell the story in a funny way.
