Dr. Brainchild & Radar: A Popcorn Discovery
Dr. Brainchild is a young inventor with a wolf-like dog named Radar. Every day they go to work in the laboratory on the Magnetron. One day, Dr. Brainchild makes a discovery when the chocolate bar he packed for a snack melts in his pocket. After some trial and error with the controls, Dr. Brainchild and Radar are using popcorn kernels to test their theories, and then invent the microwave, and pop popcorn. Radar is very happy to have so much popcorn to eat.
This is an easily relatable book for boys and girls as the gender of the main character is never mentioned. This book also teaches that if you persevere and continue to work on your goals, that hard work pays off and you may invent something new.
The illustrations in Dr. Brainchild and Radar are fun and captivating. The orange text in the book can be hard to read with certain backgrounds throughout the book. The book also includes a page of non-fiction text at the end which tells more about the invention of the microwave and includes a website for more information.
