Don’t Drink the Pink

Do you have a family member who is really close to you? Madeline is really close to her Grandpa Gildeberry. For each of her birthdays Madeline gets to pick a magic potion from her grandpa’s special box. Each of the potions gave her a different magic power for the rest of the day. Some of the powers she got gave her super strength, invisibility, she turned into a mermaid, and she was breathing fire. Her grandpa only had one rule “do not drink the pink.” As each birthday passes there are less potions to pick from, but the rule always stays the same. Will Madeline ever find out what special power the pink potion will give her?

I thought the book was inspiring, the friendship between Madeline and her grandpa is really nice. Madeline and her grandpa being so close is really sweet. The story also teaches you about giving to others and getting special gifts. I love the author’s imagination when she describes all the different powers that the potions give Madeline. The illustrations were really nice and went well with the descriptions of the magical powers.
