Descendants: Mal’s Spell Book

This book is not a regular story but a spell book that belongs to the character Mal from The Descendants. She is the daughter of Maleficent, and her friends Jay, Carlos, and Evie are also children of villains. They come from the Isle of the Lost, which people from Auradon call “that island across the way.” The friends move to Auradon and have some problems! They all write things in the spell book like this quote from Mal: “Maybe my mom can make us go to Auradon Prep, home of prissy, proper princes and princesses. But she can’t stop us from scribbling all over this book. We’re going to need to stick together…A villain’s kid. Rotten to the core.”

I like that each character uses different colors and handwriting so the reader knows who wrote the words. There are drawings that belong in the spell book and a few photographs, with comments like “Basic Princess. Snoozeville” and “Owner of the Wand.” This is a good book to read if you like the Descendants movie and book.
