Cucumber Quest: The Doughnut Kingdom
This really funny comic book is about a kid named Cucumber who has to go on a quest to save the world. His father sent a note saying that Cucumber has to help him, but Cucumber wants to go start school. His mother insists that he help his father even though Cucumber’s little sister wants to take Cucumber’s place. Both parents say that heroic quests are for boys and not little girls (even tough little girls who sword-fight). It’s not fair! Cucumber’s parents want him to be more like Almond.
Parts of The Doughnut Kingdom are so funny! The characters all have silly names: the mom’s name is Bagel, sister is Almond, and father is Lord Cabbage. Most of the characters are bunnies with bunny ears and hair. Some of the characters say things that they don’t mean, or they say something really unfortunate with a big smile. Cucumber and his sister, Almond, are probably the only ones who say what they mean. This book ends with a cliffhanger, but more books are planned for the Cucumber Quest series. I’m excited for the rest of the books to come out!
