Crab Cake: Turning the Tide Together
If I could describe this book in one word, it would be incredible! Crab Cake Turning the Tide Together by Andrea Tsurumi is a must read for all kids and their families. The story starts out with many ocean animals doing what they normally do, like Tangs swimming in schools, Parrotfish crunching coral and poop sand, and the poisonous Lion Fish doing whatever it pleases. However, there is one peculiar creature that has an extraordinary hobby and that is Crab; he likes to bake cakes. Life under the sea is great, until one night, humans drive by on their boat and create a big splash as they pollute the ocean with trash. All the sea animals freeze and are terrified, having their homes destroyed by the trash, except Crab–he continues to bake cakes and shares them with all his friends. Once the sea animals share Crab’s yummy cakes, they create a plan and start working together to help get their home clean. The Snapper shoves while Clam encourages everyone, and Sea Turtles tow trash while the Octopus inks. Everyone helps.
This book has websites in the back of the book on how we can take better care of the world and the ocean, and all the animals in it. I think this book helps us to better understand why it is important to recycle.
