Catalyst
The stunning finale to the fascinating Insignia trilogy, this is significantly darker but much more interesting than the previous two books. We see the Corporation’s despicableness deepen and Tom’s hatred grow as it is revealed exactly how far Joseph Vengerov is willing to go to achieve his nefarious ends. Tom is enlisted at the Pentagonal Spire to become the Western Hemisphere’s first and last line of defense against the hostile East Hemisphere. However, once he realizes he has the power to instantly access any computer system in the world, he becomes a valuable asset to people, like Vengerov, who seeks to use his power for evil. When Vengerov puts his sinister plan into effect, Tom must race to expose Vengerov’s diabolical scheme and protect everything he holds dear.
This was a great concluding novel. I feel that the entire book wrapped itself up completely. Despite no punches being pulled, and despite Tom’s incredible luck, I was cheering for him to succeed. The characters were unique, the world was realistic, and the author did an excellent job of portraying the actions and reactions of the individual characters. Even when the characters did something completely unexpected, I still felt like it fit the characters well. This is a great book.
