Catalyst (Catalysts)
Catalyst is about a teenage girl finding her purpose in the universe. Marcie Horton is spending her summer working at her mother’s archeological dig site, Angel Mounds. After she meets two of the new dig assistants, Zeke and Lorrain, things start to get weird. She learns to use the Universal Energy Field, and is asked to join Zeke and Lorraine to save the Earth. There are several well-developed characters in this book. Leo is kind, but a little stubborn. At first, he isn’t willing to accept that what Zeke and Lorraine are showing him is actually real. Renee is afraid that she won’t be able to help, until Zeke and Lorraine help her. Eric is quick to anger, and accepts new ideas somewhat easily. Marcie wants to help Zeke and Lorraine almost right after meeting them, and she encourages her friends to help as well. This book was very well written, and had many interesting ideas. Overall, I think this was a very good book, and I would recommend this book to young adults.
