Captain Marvel: Starforce on the Rise
Starforce on the Rise is written by Steve Behling. It’s based on the new movie Captain Marvel, which is now on DVD. The main character, Vers, is nicknamed “Captain Marvel”, and is the Kree Starforce’s newest recruit. The Kree Starforce is made up of “the baddest elite warriors in the cosmic business” and consists of Vers, Korath, Att-Lass, Bron-Char, and Minn-Erva who is “the team’s most valued sniper.” I’ve never ever seen Captain Marvel before, so this is a new experience for me. (Beware kids and tweens, this involves guns.) Minn-Erva calls Vers “twinklefists,” which is a funny name. There are no pictures in this book, except for one on the cover. It makes me kind of sad that there are no pictures. Att-Lass and Minn-Erva’s names are a wordplay on the names “Minerva” and “Atlas”. I kind of like wordplay, so this appealed to me. The adventure in this story makes me want to see the movie. I especially like that this is a superhero story whose main character is a girl!
