Call of the Osprey (Scientists in the Field Series)
I read this book called The Call of the Osprey by Dorothy Hinshaw, published with photographs by William Muñoz. It is part of a series called Scientists in the Field. This book tells about ospreys and the people who study them. I learned things about ospreys like, “The chick is hooded to keep it calm.” There are scientists who are men and women, and there are ospreys with funny names like Ozzie and Harriet. The illustrations are beautiful photographs and maps. This book has a lot of information and statistics. I was very surprised to learn that they put an antenna on a bird! My favorite part was when the osprey named Harriet feeds her babies. I think this is a good book for kids who like science, especially birds. “When the Montana Osprey Project began in 2006, very little was known about the ospreys living in western Montana.” I like how this book shows that studying ospreys can be helpful. The more we learn about ospreys, the more we can help these birds.
