Cake for Everyone
Cake for Everyone is part seek-and-find and part silent story. There are no words throughout the book, so the reader pays attention to what the characters do to figure out what is happening in the story.
It begins with a group of friends, getting ready for a picnic and cake when a giant bird snatches the blanket full of their things from the ground and flies off! Chasing the bird, it gets pecked by another bird, and their things fall to the ground around them. Some items are easier to find than others – lucky if they landed in the open, but unlucky if they landed in the water or across the land!
The reader can follow one character at a time from start to finish, and then go back to the beginning and find a new character to follow. The story is easy to understand, even without words, and is enjoyable; the reader can make up the characters’ conversations and what’s happening. The pictures are bright and colorful. The story is appropriate and fun to read at any age or reading ability because no words can be too easy or hard and everyone can practice using their imaginations!
