Description

Bridget Vanderpuff and the Baked Escape is the first story of the adventurous and genius Bridget Baxter, an orphan in the Orphanage for Errant Childs run by the horrendous Miss Acrid. Bridget and Acrid don’t see eye to eye—one loves exploring, inventing, being a best friend, and being great at everything, while the other enjoys causing pain, being selfish, and eating her daily fish sandwiches.

When an unexpected visitor comes to the orphanage, asking about Bridget, she gets adopted by Mr. Vanderpuff, the town’s famous and loved baker. To her dismay, Bridget learns that while she’s never had a problem with doing anything before, baking is a different and potentially deadly story.

I enjoyed this story because I could see a lot of another of my favorite book characters, Junie B. Jones, in Bridget. I loved reading about Bridget’s inventions, creativity, how she’s a great friend, and the mystery she helps solve! I loved the illustrations throughout the pages; the footnotes were funny and added more to the story. Bridget’s story will be enjoyed and understood by readers as young as elementary school and as old as anyone!
