Big Nate Goes Bananas!
Big Nate Goes Bananas is a book written by Lincoln Peirce. (He was also the illustrator.) In this story, Nate hears that the Creampuffs are changing their name to the Cupcakes. Then, Nate does a report on the French and Indian War—but Mrs. Godfrey gives him a D minus! Lastly, Nate realizes that his “substitute teacher” is Coach John. In the middle, Nate says he hates yellow bananas–“overripe bananas”–as he calls them. There are some funny parts. For example, in response to Gina’s “Have fun in DETENTION?” Nate says a bad word. And on his report on the French and Indian War, Beyonce sings our national anthem! His hatred of “overripe bananas” is why the book’s title is called Big Nate Goes Bananas! I’ve read a lot of Big Nate books, starting with Big Nate’s Greatest Hits. I even saw the author and illustrator, Lincoln Peirce, speak at the library a few years ago. He autographed one of my other Big Nate books! So I was especially excited to review this book and see that it is just as much fun as the author’s other books. Kids who love the Big Nate series will enjoy this book.
