Bedtime Story: Poems for Advanced Readers
This is a book of poems. The author likes to use puns and idioms in his poetry, but some have neither. The end of some poems have a “p” or an “i” for puns and idioms. The author explains the puns and idioms in the poems at the end of the book. He does a good job of explaining them. It would have been better if there were more puns. I don’t like the zany word blenders because they’re not really poems. Some of the poems have things like fart jokes and streakers. My favorite poem is the “Great Hamper Toss” because it’s clever. I also like “Frustrating Word Game” because it’s witty. I would have given this book five stars, but the pictures were a little creepy. My least favorite picture is the one for the “Medieval Museum.” Their faces are unpleasant. I think it takes the attention off the poem itself, which was actually pretty good. Some of the poems are funny, and some are painful. I usually like puns and idioms. I don’t think this is a good bedtime story because the illustrations are kind of disturbing.
