Banana Pants!
This book is about a play and the kids who have to work together to make the play work. It’s really funny. The main characters are Miranda and Maude. My favorite character is Maude because she’s funny; I mean, she has a pet chicken! Maude is all about saving the world. Miranda is more of a “princess”–very girly, girl. Miranda is also more of a thinking person, and she’s very helpful.
Their teacher, Ms. Kinde, decided the kids needed a break from all these pop quizzes, so she decided she could have her students give a play. First, she told them to name the play. So Miranda was like, “hmmm”….Then she watched Maude pull an overripe banana out of her bag, and this boy Donut was pulling a string on his pants so hard that his pant legs split and left a big hole. Miranda was looking at Maude’s banana and Donut’s ripped and pants and said, “That’s what we should call our play, Banana Pants!” They have to figure out who is going to write the script, who is going to choreograph the dances, AND who will be the announcer for the play! Then they had to figure out who was going to be the director, and they chose Hillary. I like Hillary as the director. She’s a funny character. She uses a megaphone and yells, “From the top!”
I would really recommend this book for kids who are still learning to work together. The author wanted kids to know if you work together, you can do something magnificent.
