I read the book called Around The World In 80 Days. It’s about a man named Phileas Fogg. He and his friend, Jean Passepartout, are traveling. Mr. Fogg was reading the newspaper. In it, it said that it was possible to go around the world in 80 days. The men at the Reform Club bet that it could not be done. Mr. Fogg bet that he could, and went home to get Jean and to pack.

Meanwhile, a detective named Mr. Fix was trying to figure out who stole 50 pounds of money from the bank. His description of the thief matched Mr. Fogg and now was after him to put him in jail.

The first stop for Mr. Fogg and Jean was to the Suez Canal. It took them a week to travel across Europe, where Jean bought them each a clean shirt. Next, was to India. Jean saw a parade and decided to join. They went into an ancient temple. Eventually they noticed that Jean was there and threw him out.

Then, Jean and Mr. Fogg got onto a train that went to Calcutta. Unfortunately, the tracks stopped. Calcutta was 50 miles to where the tracks started again. Mr. Fogg bought an elephant as transportation and hired a man as their guide. At night, the men set up camp and were going to travel first thing the next day. In the morning, the men saw a parade to a human sacrifice. The woman who was being sacrificed name was Aouda. She was kidnapped and forced to marry a man. The man she was supposed to marry died. The crowd was going to set the dead body on fire and Aouda with it. Jean decided to save her.

A few hours later, the sacrifice was about to be held. Jean covered himself with a sheet. When they were about to set Aouda and the dead body on fire, Jean pretended to be a ghost and saved her.

The two men went back to traveling. They invited Aouda to go with them at the train station. The three of them rode to Calcutta. Mr. Fix tried to have them arrested but had to let them go. They have to take a boat to Hong Kong. It’s supposed to leave in the morning the next day but they changed the schedule. Jean made it but Mr. Fogg and Aouda missed the boat. Mr. Fogg saw another boat and offered to pay them a lot of money to take them to Hong Hong. They had to hurry or miss the boat to San Francisco.
When they got there, the other boat was already leaving so the captain fired a canon to get their attention. Mr. Fogg and Aouda got on the other boat and met up with Jean again. Once they all got to San Fransisco, they took a train to Omaha. After Omaha came New York, then back to England. When they got to England, Mr.Fix accused Mr. Fogg of stealing 50 pounds and had him arrested. This was bad because if Mr. Fogg didn’t get back to the club in time, he would lose the bet. If you want to find out what happens next, go buy this book!

I recommend this book to my teacher, Mrs. Willard, and to kids 8 to 12. Even though this book is short, it’s a very good book with lots of adventure. I rate Around the World In 80 Days 5 stars!
