When his grandmother Celestine passes, Archibald Finch and his family move to her creepy, cavernous mansion in the countryside. One day, when he’s exploring the house’s library, he stumbles across an ancient globe covered in strange monsters and nonexistent, unmarked islands. Suddenly, Archibald awakens a dormant portal that whisks him off to a different world—a world called Lemurea that seems to be stationed in the Middle Ages—where he must quickly learn their ways and magic in order to survive.

Meanwhile, Archibald’s sister Hailee, who witnessed him trigger the globe, begins to look into his disappearance and the strange globe that started it all. But, as she starts to learn more about it—and its strange past—she realizes that she’s not the only one interested in the globe’s mysterious powers.

The first in the Archibald Finch series, I found this book to be as fun to read as it was compelling, making me want to keep turning the pages. Even after I finished the book, I was already jumping for the next one! Wildly entertaining with fantastical twists and turns, any kid looking for their next fantasy thriller adventure should look no further than Archibald Finch!
